Simon Brown joined the Firm in 1997 and has worked almost exclusively in the field of Criminal Law ever since. Over the years as well as appearing locally in Kilmarnock & Ayr Sheriff Courts he has appeared in virtually every Sheriff Court in Scotland and has developed a particular reputation for dealing with difficult and complex criminal cases.
Mr Brown qualified as a Solicitor Advocate in 2006 allowing him to appear personally to represent clients in the High Court of Justiciary. This means that the Firm can represent clients in all matters from the Justice of the Peace Court to the High Court, fitting in well with our principals of continuity of representation.
This experience has led to Simon Brown having extensive contacts and influence throughout the Scottish Legal Profession. In 2009 he was appointed as a Peer Reviewer by the Scottish Legal Aid Board to monitor standards in other Solicitors criminal work. In 2013 he was elected to the Council of the Law Society of Scotland, and in September 2016 was elected to the Board of the Law Society. In addition he is former Dean of Kilmarnock Faculty of Solicitors and External Examiner in Professional Ethics for the Diploma and Legal Practice at Strathclyde University.
All of this experience means that Mr Brown has dealt with every imaginable type of criminal case and is well placed to provide detailed insight and experienced advice in respect of any type of criminal matter.
